Lift Your Health With Delta Electric and Wind-Up
The Sit or Stand debate has been going on for some time now, however one thing is conclusive - It is important to move more throughout the day if you want to seriously reduce your risk of health problems.
According to research conducted by the Heart Foundation, adults spend more than half of their waking hours sitting.
Why is Sitting Less - Better for your Health?
Adults who sit less throughout the day have a substantially lower risk of serious health problems such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and musculoskeletal disorders. There are many great ways to increase our overall daily activity during the day. We can do this by simply going for walks at lunch time, doing stretches, having informal meetings over counter tables, using stairs instead of the lift.
One of the most effective way to achieve this is by using a height adjustable desk allowing to change from a sitting to a standing position. Alternating between a sitting and standing position throughout the day allows muscles to stretch and stay active, minimises back and neck pain and improves blood circulation.
But Wait... There are Problems with Standing too!
We need to be aware that there are problems with standing in one place for a long time too. This can result in muscle tension and fatigue in the back and legs as your body struggles to hold itself upright.
So What's the Solution?
It turns out that the solution isn’t one or the other, but rather a mix of both. By regularly changing positions, your body doesn’t have the chance to lock up in one position or the other. A Delta Electric or Delta Wind-Up Desk that can go from sitting to standing and back again is ideal for this and makes it easy to do the most important thing – KEEP MOVING!
Here’s a few more tips to help improve your health in the office.
Maintain Good Posture
When sitting, sit up with your back straight and your shoulders back. Your buttocks should touch the back of your chair. Distribute your body weight evenly on both hips. Bend your knees at a right angle. Keep your knees even with or slightly higher than your hips. (use a foot rest or stool if necessary). Your legs should not be crossed. Keep your feet flat on the floor. Try to avoid sitting in the same position for more than 30 minutes.
When standing up, always stand up straight and roll your shoulders back. Hold your head up straight with your chin in. Do not tilt your head forward, backward or sideways. Tuck your stomach in. Do not tilt your pelvis forward or backward. The arches in your feet should be supported.
Remember to Stretch & Walk Around
Try to incorporate as much natural movement into your day as possible. Go for a walk at lunch time, do some stretches between sitting and standing. Our Delta Electric or Delta Wind-Up height adjustable workstations and desks have been designed with just that in mind.
